Dance, Dance, Dance

I love Lykke Li, especially after the recent interview she gave to XLR8R. Turns out I also love San Francisco. So this Take-Away Show of Lykke, El Perro del Mar, and friends performing “Dance, Dance, Dance” near the Civic Center is pretty great in my opinion. It’s a nice little song in a nice little city. I’m not even going to say where I was, what I was doing, and what I was wearing the day this was filmed.

TRAMP @ Pink, this Thursday, July 24th

TRAMP @ Pink, Thursday, July 24th

It’s Monday morning, and if you’re anything like me, you’ve been drinking a large coffee and listening to Lindstrøm for the last three hours. I hope you’re nothing like me. Well, maybe just a little bit.

Anyway, I’m rather excited for Thursday night. The Lacquer DJs will be joining the TRAMP crew for the first party at our new location, Pink, on 16th between Mission & South Van Ness (map). I’ll be DJing for an hour and dancing for four hours. Come by and join the party if you’re around. I’m taking requests.

Hipster Hunting Ground

Hipster Hunting Ground

Hi, so I live in the Mission neighborhood of San Francisco, but I don’t really consider myself a hipster. I mean yeah, sometimes I ride a bike, grow facial hair, and let’s face it, I’ve got an impossibly hip sense of style and taste in music. But when it comes down to it, I put on my skinny jeans one leg at a time, just like you.

So a special thanks to the New York Times for running that neighborhood profile last weekend entitled “Hipster Hunting Ground.” A couple of things: 1) Have you ever been east of Mission Street? Oh, you haven’t? No shit. 2) I go to Ritual Roasters for one very specific reason, and now I’ve got to wait in a line out the door because you decided to include them in your profile. You’re the best. Thanks for keeping me hip.

W Hotel this Friday, 10pm-1am

W Hotel

I’m DJing at the W Hotel in San Francisco (map) this Friday, July 18th, from 10pm to 1am. I’ll be spinning everything from IDM/glitch to 80s to indie rock, so swing by if you have a chance. I’ll even play your favorite song, unless it kind of sucks. See you on the floor!

Monkey 23

The Kills

It’s funny how certain songs never leave your head. I often wonder what causes the catch, but either way, I’ll take it. There’s got to be some good reason.

A couple months ago, as I was going nuts over the new Kills album, I randomly watched De battre mon coeur s’est arrêté (The Beat that my Heart Skipped), a Jacques Audiard film starring Romain Duris (you know how much I love Dans Paris). Suddenly during the film, I hear this wonderfully distorted, wonderfully slow guitar riff, and I knew right away it had to be the Kills. I did a little research and found that it was “Monkey 23″ from their debut album, Keep on your Mean Side. And it’s kind of beautiful in its simplicity:

There’s a monkey on my back
Makes me act like that
There’s a monkey on my back
Makes me talk like that

I know what you mean. Here, listen to it on repeat like me.

Parties and such

Super Amigos

Well, last night was one of the most fun nights of my life. Thanks to everyone who came out, and I can’t wait till the next Kissing Booth. Or the W next week. Or TRAMP on the 24th.

But in the meantime, there’s something very important I need to talk to you about. I’m DJing a house party tonight. Mexican Wrestlers vs. American Gladiators. It’s high time I got over my crippling fear of Mexican wrestler masks. Either that or I’m going to have one scary time. Live funk band followed by my DJ set. Check the Web site for the details. And come enjoy.

Kissing Booth @ Make-Out Room this Thursday, 7/10

Kissing Booth
J.O.R.Y. and I are switching up the format at our monthly Make-Out Room nights. Starting tomorrow, every second Thursday at Make-Out Room will be Kissing Booth, indie songs for romantic lovers. TRAMP will be moving to Pink starting on Thursday, July 24th, and it will still make you dance your little pink hot-pants off. We’ll have Mario Muse DJing with us for the July dates, and hopefully for many more. See you at the disco.

To the East

NYC Subway Map

Hey you,

Long time, no talk, occasional text, and that time I Facebook poked you when I was drunk (I never poke sober, I swear). Well anyway, as luck may have it, I’m coming back East from July 31st to August 13th. New York, Jersey Shore. It’s going to be all Black Keys, white weddings, Red Stripes, yellow kayaks, and blue balls. Wait, not that last one.

So if you’re around, lets get hopped up and make some bad decisions.

Hugs and kisses, love and wishes,

KP
