TRAMP @ Pink, this Thursday, July 24th

TRAMP @ Pink, Thursday, July 24th

It’s Monday morning, and if you’re anything like me, you’ve been drinking a large coffee and listening to Lindstrøm for the last three hours. I hope you’re nothing like me. Well, maybe just a little bit.

Anyway, I’m rather excited for Thursday night. The Lacquer DJs will be joining the TRAMP crew for the first party at our new location, Pink, on 16th between Mission & South Van Ness (map). I’ll be DJing for an hour and dancing for four hours. Come by and join the party if you’re around. I’m taking requests.

W Hotel

I’m DJing at the W Hotel in San Francisco (map) this Friday, July 18th, from 10pm to 1am. I’ll be spinning everything from IDM/glitch to 80s to indie rock, so swing by if you have a chance. I’ll even play your favorite song, unless it kind of sucks. See you on the floor!

Parties and such

Super Amigos

Well, last night was one of the most fun nights of my life. Thanks to everyone who came out, and I can’t wait till the next Kissing Booth. Or the W next week. Or TRAMP on the 24th.

But in the meantime, there’s something very important I need to talk to you about. I’m DJing a house party tonight. Mexican Wrestlers vs. American Gladiators. It’s high time I got over my crippling fear of Mexican wrestler masks. Either that or I’m going to have one scary time. Live funk band followed by my DJ set. Check the Web site for the details. And come enjoy.

Kissing Booth @ Make-Out Room this Thursday, 7/10

Kissing Booth
J.O.R.Y. and I are switching up the format at our monthly Make-Out Room nights. Starting tomorrow, every second Thursday at Make-Out Room will be Kissing Booth, indie songs for romantic lovers. TRAMP will be moving to Pink starting on Thursday, July 24th, and it will still make you dance your little pink hot-pants off. We’ll have Mario Muse DJing with us for the July dates, and hopefully for many more. See you at the disco.

Outside Lands Festival

Golden Gate Park

Wonderful news, as it has been revealed that Golden Gate Park will play host to the Outside Lands Festival on August 22-24. Details are still spares, but we know that the headliners will be Radiohead, Tom Petty, and Jack Johnson. This is exciting for several reasons. Mainly, Radiohead. But Golden Gate Park is also one of the most amazing places to explore, so combining it with a music festival seems too good to be true.

I’ll have more information for you as it becomes available. But in the meantime, the anticipation builds. It’s festival season!

Jonny Greenwood

Jonny Greenwood

Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead is all over the place these days. Obviously there’s the In Rainbows buzz of the past couple month. Then there’s Jonny’s soundtrack for There Will Be Blood, which is absolutely amazing. And last night, the Wordless Music Series treated us to the American premiere of Greenwood’s Popcorn Superhet Receiver at the Church of St. Paul the Apostle on the Upper West Side.

Speaking from an admittedly novice point of view vis-à-vis classical music, the 2005 piece is an 18-minute exploration of white noise and extended notes, rising and falling with beautiful tension. The composer oscillates between drawing out melodies from and creating pounding rhythms with the 36-piece string orchestra. If you’re familiar with the music from There Will Be Blood, much of this piece is in the same vein, and excerpts appear throughout the movie soundtrack.

You can stream audio of the piece via Pitchfork. And you can go see it performed live tonight if you are in the area.
